How to measure yourself for a bra?

It's important to measure yourself if you lose weight or put on weight, and if you're pregnant. Your breasts can gain and lose weight and this will make your bra fit wrongly. A bra that doesn't fit well will leave red marks, rub or slip up and not provide the suport you need.

How to measure

Get a tape measure - a fabric one, not one intended for DIY use!

Measure underneath first - the band - this can be tricky to do on your own, so ask your partner or friend for help. Measure under the bust where the bra will fit your body. Measure so the tape is flat across your back and just under your bust at the front. Pull it in to make sure you get the right number.
Take this measurement (in inches): if it is even, add four, if it is odd, add five.

The cup size is measured around the fullest part of your bust. Make this measurement looser rather than tight.

To obtain your cup size, subtract your band size from your bust size. If the two are the same, you are an A cup. If your bust size is one inch larger than your band size, you are a B cup, two inches larger and you are a C cup. This continues through the alphabet, though not in a strictly linear fashion, due to the presence of cup sizes such as DD.
